Choosing the right hair extension set for me

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

The most common questions asked when people are on the lookout for clipin hair extensions is:

“How Many pieces do I need for my hair???” and
“Will a 5 piece set be good enough for a full head… I have thin hair”
“I dont think you have my colour, what should I do?”

I shall try to answer these questions as best as I can so as to clear up these most common questions

1) “How Many pieces do I need for my hair???”

This is a difficult question to answer. it really depends on a few things such as
-The length of your hair currently
-The type of haircut you have- If you have a very blunt bob you will need to either break up the line at the bottom of your haircut, or place more extensions in to disguise the line
-Weather you are just wanting a bit of fullness and no lentgth
-Weather you are wanting to make your hair longer

8pc sets are for extending, whereas the 5 pice sets are just for adding fullness. A 5 piece set used for extending will only work if you are concentrating on extending in a small area on your head (think Pob cut that you want extra length at the front of the cut)

2) “Will a 5 piece set be good enough for a full head… I have thin hair”

The simplest answer would be no. a 5 piece set will not be sufficient in extending hair even thin hair -UNLESS- you will be tying the hair into a ponytail and using the pieces wrapped into the ponytail. reason being, you will not have enough pieces to make the hair full at the ends. Think a very grown our undercut on fine hair. The result would be even more rediculous on normal/ thicker hair.

3) “I dont think you have my colour, what should I do?”

This is a very common question and a good one to ask. The great thing about having extensions installed is that the hair which is placed in will blend its self through your hair and the colour will almost always match perfectly as a result.

as the extensions are placed closer to your part lines at the top of your head, the colours of the extensions are pretty much beginning at the top of your head. That means the colours are blending right at the top down to where your natural hair ends.

In this way you can even get hair extensions which are a couple of shades lighter/ darker than your own hair and they will still look fine. If you are wanting perfect match of colour you should get a shade of extesion lighter and colour it to your desired colour.

These are just a few of the questions asked by people interested in getting hair extensions. I hope these responses help you better understand how hair extensions are used and what you should consider when on the lookout for them.
